Alright. I admit it. If you’re going to lose weight and get fit, it’s not just about the exercise you do. A big part of weight loss lies in the foods you eat. But who said healthy needs to be boring? And who says low calorie needs to be only lettuce?
Well, nobody probably said that. And I’m not saying it either. Healthy and low calorie can be fun and interesting. I wish I could write a post here with the foods that are all of those things, but unfortunately I don’t know what foods you like and think are fun. However, I can share some foods that I like to eat now that I am on a diet.
Note: I am not following any diet like low carb, low calorie etc. I am simply eating after my own will, just like pandas do.
(Kind of) low calorie foods that I like:
- Flavoured quark/yogurt quark
- Ovenbaked chicken breast
- Homemade smoothie (see recipe in the next post)
- Porridge with zero sugar jam
- Sorbet (I said kind of!)
- Broccoli & Cauliflower
Healthy foods that I like:
- Macadamia nuts
- Protein milk
- Strawberries & bananas
- Ovenbaked salmon
The trick is to combine the healthy, most of the time filling, foods with the low calorie foods. That is my diet. I could eat, as an example, porridge for breakfast, ovenbaked salmon with broccoli and cauliflower for lunch, 40g of macadamia nuts for snack (half a bag of the ones I buy, I don’t weigh food), chickenbreast (perhaps with pesto) and potatoes for dinner and some sorbet for dessert. That would add up to a perfect amount of calories for me in a day, especially if I work out aswell. And, it keeps me full and satisfied.
It’s not about losing weight fast, it’s about actually losing weight, and you won’t do that if you give up. Therefor, cut yourself some slack, make some switches to the way you eat but keep some things you feel you can’t live without. I love my ice cream, so if I eat a little bit of sorbet instead of ice cream made of cream when I have a craving, I get less sugar and fat in me, but the craving goes away.
Finding smart solutions that work for you is the way forward. We are all different and we need to work with that in mind. Don’t like the things on my lists? Make your own! I am sure you too can find five things to put in a list like I did.
